Volkswagen’s entry-level EV is coming along. The first pre-series battery systems, which will power the ID.2, are now rolling off the assembly line, and Volkswagen is already building parts for the low-cost EV.

Despite several new EV models facing delays, Volkswagen’s cheapest model yet, the ID.2, is still on track to launch. The company confirmed the entry-level EV will launch as early as late 2025, marking a new “starting point” for the German auto giant.

The Volkswagen ID.2, the brand’s cheapest electric car, is real. Volkswagen’s ID.2 was officially spotted for the first time out testing. The sub 25,000 euro ($27,500) electric vehicle is affordable, like a Polo, but still spacious like a Golf.

According to a recent update from Volkswagen Passenger Cars CEO Thomas Schaefer, the Group intends to build at least four of its incoming EVs across its sub-brand’s current and upcoming facilities in Spain, including the VW ID.2, whose concept version, the ID.2all, was unveiled last week.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has confirmed the estimated mile range of two AWD versions of Volkswagen’s all-electric ID.4 SUV. The dual-motor trims of the ID.4 Pro and Pro S were announced over the summer, but we are just now seeing the EPA estimated range of each to compare the previous rear-wheel-drive versions.
